      181 Context
-Nowadays, haptic rendering technologies become a strategic component in various systems where the human user is involved. However, the different technological and commercial constraints (e.g., working space, cost) limit the large deployment of this technology in commercial and applied solutions (e.g., games, telesurgery). Among these constraints, the intrusively of haptic devices is a major limit since it constraints the dexterity of manipulation and the rendering and interaction transparency. In this context, the LIMSI-CNRS lab developed a non-intrusive haptic device for the interaction with 3D spaces. This interface is based on air jet system that enables the tactile stimulation of skins with various intensity and frequency of flow rate. +...
      182 Work program
-The work begins with a series of experiments to study of the haptic perception of different types of surface and volumetric data. We propose to address separately various geometrical, temporal, cinematic, and mechanical features and to identify the best compromise between the involved parameters for the haptic rendering. The study of these features and the identification of their optimal parameters will be based on the constant stimuli approach. Based on all features and parameters identified in the previous experiment, we propose to compare the efficiency of the tactile perception and the rendering transparency of the air jet haptic interface with standard haptic devices. Two other haptic interfaces will be investigated for this study (used at LIMSI lab). First, a kinesthetic interface of type of Sensable Phantom Desktop which provides an efficient kinesthetic feedback. Second, a vibrotactile data glove of type of Cyber Glove which enables a tactile feedback in a 3D free space. +...
      183 Objectives
-The objective of this work is to study the haptic perception of the air jet stimulation and to compare it with standard haptic stimulation (haptic arm, vibrotactile stimulation, etc.). +...
