The thesis aims at investigating new navigation and exploration strategies inspired from the field of "serious game".
Context
Exploration of 3D data is a major issue in the field of Human-Machine Interfaces. In fact, usual desktop approaches do not allow an intuitive and efficient navigation and manipulation. Different works, mainly in the field of Virtual Reality, have tried to propose immersive solutions exploiting 3D interaction. However, these solutions were constrained by the intrusiveness of visualization and interaction devices (haptic device, large and fixed screen, etc.).
Objectives
The objective of the thesis work is to investigate a new exploration approach inspired from the field of the “serious game”. The proposed approach consists to use standard tablets as a navigation and interaction tool in augmented reality environment. Thus, users can intuitively navigate and explore the 3D environment and without resorting to intrusive interfaces.
Beyond the study and the design of this exploration approach, we propose to improve the interaction with data through audio-haptic feedbacks. In fact, the multimodal interaction improves the immersion and the awareness about the several events that occurs in the 3D environment.
