We are developing a novel theoretcial framework, based on 'co-adaptive instruments', that treats interaction between people and computers as a first-class object. The goal is to significantly empower users, providing a simpler, yet more powerful style of interaction with a coherent interface for controlling a variety of interactive devices, from interactive paper to smart phones to wall-sized displays.
This thesis will explore how to design, implement and evaluate co-adaptive instruments that span multiple applications, enabling the user to keep the same interaction techniques across different contexts. This work will contribute to a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of co-adaptation, which emphasizes the two-way learning and adaptation that occurs between people and technology.
